Humidity Damage — What to Watch For

You may have noticed that drawers and doors stick, when you try to open them in humid weather conditions. Or, you may have noticed that glued wooden joints often become loose and wobbly when the air in your home becomes dryer from winer heating or from dry weather that comes with extremely cold temperature. Similarly, piano keys can become tight and stick down, when struck in times of humidity. In dryness, the piano seems to rattle more heavily. With a Dampp-Chaser Climate Control System installed, your piano immediately stabilizes. That means less tuning, more aural stability, and nothing to be seen, no eye sores. The system is hidden within your piano.

Over time, constant changes in humidity levels, with the corresponding shrinking and swelling of the soundboard, will damage the integrity of the board. You will see this damage in the form of a crack in the soundboard.
